In reply to Poe. Oh, I am so incredibly sorry to hear this. Please accept my deepest condolences. Fakarava won't be the same without her. It was a privilege to have met Auntie Poline, and I will always remember that beautiful moment we shared. Wishing you and everybody else affected peace and strength as you celebrate her wonderful life.

Sorry didn't read the entire post (yet), but something you wrote made it imperative for me to comment. Lol. "When it was finally my turn, I did what every solo traveler does: I handed my phone to a total stranger. The result? A collection of blurry, off-center photos that went straight to the bin. I swear there was not a single decent shot in the bunch" While I did luck out with that gorgeous video at "insta point", I had you loud and clear. I give them clear instructions "just take the photo, I don't need to have a zoom" and guess what? Half the photos (ok I exaggerate) have the doofuses testing out their expertise with motion picture, zoom, and other effects that I have difficulty resetting the camera back (or forget to do so) with the result that my next few photos are forgettable too lol #facepalm PS: I'm no great photographer, but I sure like the independence

You are better off descending Rateta on the southern side. A bit further but far safer*, and with far better and new views. Head south across the flat peak to the snow house at 39.7714°, 2.7851°, watch out for the two vertical cave entrances, then follow the fabulous cobbled path down to Coll des Bosc 39.7729°, 2.7965° at 799m continue east down into the gorge and at the water pipeline follow it upstream (left, north) until the reservoir. It’s ~4km in total to the car park.

*a young 28yo German girl was killed on 9.6.2025 trying to descend the northern route.

Great and detailed description! What are your views on hiking and scrambling to Puig Major from the NE? Besides the military section and the very end, it looks from a route I read online?

Sadly, she recently passed away. She gained her wings to heaven and is sharing her beautiful voice with angels.

In the 90’s I met an old Legionnaire at Finnegan’s Wake bar in Key West Florida. Like this guy, he had every other tooth in his mouth. He had been with the Paras in 53′ at Dien Bien Phu and escaped through the lines to join up with Colonel Sassi and the Hmong in Laos harassing Vietminh supply lines.
He was sunburnt, tattooed and enjoyed his single malt whiskey and unfiltered Camel cigarettes. One hell of a life!

Thank you so much! You’re really doing all 103 of them? That’s incredible – what a feat! Wishing you the best of luck with that adventure. I’ll definitely add Migdia and Ali to my list – I’m heading back at the end of the month, so there’s a good chance I’ll cross them off before the new year. And thanks for the feedback, too. I had an “about me” page until recently but took it down because it didn’t really resonate with me anymore. I’ll make a new one eventually, but I’m still figuring out what I actually want with this cyberspace of mine.

Lovely write-ups Sara! Tomír is special, but you have just scratched the surface. There are 103 peaks over 3,000' (915m) - I really recommend Penyal de Migdia if you want a challenge!!! I'm doing them all this summer, in fact I'm just back from Puig de n'Ali (1,038m) today after a few words with the Massenella toll booth guy who wanted to charge me for exit-only (we settled on €3). Less than a dozen left to go 16/10/25. Dates, and a few words "about me" would really add to your site IMO
